Getting from the Airport to the University
The University of Pittsburgh is located in the Oakland area of Pittsburgh. Students can travel to Oakland in a number of ways:
- Take a Pittsburgh Regional Transit (PRT) public bus. (The bus number 28X stops at the University of Pittsburgh. The bus also stops near most major hotels in Oakland.) The cost is $2.75 one way. Exact change is required or payment can be made with mobile ticketing using one of the PRT-approved apps. The bus stop is in the airport area called 'Ground Transportation' (on the baggage level). You can view the schedule online or view real-time GPS-based scheduled by downloading one of the PRT-approved apps or Google Maps.
- If you have arranged a homestay, your homestay host might be able to meet you at the airport.
- Take a taxi, Lyft, or Uber. The price ranges from approximately $37 to $75 to get to the University of Pittsburgh in Oakland depending on the day of the week, time of day, and availability.
Places to Stay Upon Arrival
Students who need a place to stay upon arrival while they look for an apartment have several options:
- Apply for a 3- to 7-day homestay through a local homestay provider at least two weeks in advance.
- Reserve a room in one of the hotels located near the University. Hotels close to the University are in the Oakland section of Pittsburgh.
