The English Language Institute (ELI) provides courses for international students who want to improve their English for academic, professional, or personal reasons.
Located on the Pittsburgh campus of the University of Pittsburgh, the ELI provides students with an opportunity to experience life on an American university campus and interact with American students. ELI students come from all over the world. In a typical term, there are students from 20 to 25 countries.

The ELI was established in 1964 and is among the oldest of the intensive English programs in the U.S. Our mission is to serve our students, our university and our profession. In our 60 years of history, we have helped over 14,000 students from more than 130 countries achieve their career and personal goals through English.

Founded in 1787, the University of Pittsburgh is one of the oldest institutions of higher education in the United States.
